How much is a face cord of wood?

A face cord is worth the cord price times its share of a cord. With 16-inch logs that share is a third: if a cord is $330, a face cord at $110 is the same deal, before delivery.

Per full cord, a face cord price is price × 48 ÷ log length in inches. A $130 face cord of 16-inch logs is $130 × 48 ÷ 16 = $390 a cord, $60 more than a $330 cord.

The other way round, a face cord equal to a $330 cord costs $330 × log length ÷ 48: $82.50 with 12-inch logs, $110 with 16-inch logs, $123.75 with 18-inch logs and $165 with 24-inch logs.

Questions

Why do face cord prices differ so much?

A face cord is one row as deep as the logs, so longer logs mean more wood in the same 4 by 8 foot face. Ask the seller for the log length.

Is a face cord a third of a cord?

Only with 16-inch logs. With 12-inch logs it is a quarter; with 24-inch logs, half.

Which is cheaper, face cords or a full cord?

Compare both per full cord with delivery and stacking included; the tool above does it.
