Face cord vs. full cord
A face cord is one row 4 feet high and 8 feet long, as deep as the logs. With 16-inch logs it is a third of a full cord, so three face cords make one cord.
A full cord is 4 feet deep. A face cord keeps the same face, 4 by 8 feet, but is only one log deep, so the log length decides how much wood you get. With 12-inch logs it is a quarter of a cord; with 24-inch logs, half.
To compare a face cord price with a full cord price, multiply the face cord price by 48 and divide by the log length in inches. With 16-inch logs that is three times the price.
Questions
Is a face cord the same as a rick?
In many places, yes: both name one 4 by 8 foot row. Ask the seller for the log length and the row size to be sure.
How much is a face cord compared with a cord?
Price it per full cord: multiply the face cord price by 48, then divide by the log length in inches. The comparison tool does this with fees included.
How many face cords do I need for a winter?
That depends on your stove, house and climate. Measure what you burned last year and convert it here.
